3 Enfield Street
1-3 Enfield Street, Mount Eden, Auckland
Resource Consent granted in 2016.
A mixed use, residential and commercial development on a narrow brownfield site near central Auckland. The site is located adjacent to Mount Eden Road and rail line, is near Mount Eden Rail Station and is currently used as parking for the historic Horse and Trap Pub east of the site. The proposal includes basement parking, 4 retail units at street level and 24 two and three bedroom residential apartments, some with views towards Mount Eden and further afield.
Motu design provided urban design services, working collaboratively with the project team on the design of the proposal.
The project successfully addresses the multiple challenges of the site- the change in levels between Mount Eden Road and Enfield Street and the narrowness of the site due to the close proximity to the railway. Retail is located at street level with residential above to allow for privacy of residents but activity at street level. The length of the building is broken down through the central location of the stairwell and the careful location of decks and glazing. The building design and materials selected reflect this volcanic neighbourhood but also makes the most of the potential views and light to create a dynamic and landmark building in this part of Mount Eden.
