Our Future Avondale

 

 

Our Future Avondale is a community-led vision for the future of the Avondale area.   In late September - October 2018 Motu Design  hosted three community-led vision workshops with people from Avondale to explore what is important to them and their communities. The purpose of the project was to enable a community voice to help inform development of the area as significant change is anticipated, and to empower communities to become more meaningfully engaged in the shaping of their city and local neighbourhood to ensure it meets their needs and reflects their aspirations.

 

The workshops initially explored common values that have been identified, and then looked to identify more detailed design objectives.   The ideas shared were then collated to form the Our Future Avondale document that outlines the community's vision for the future of the area and includes a series of design principles relevant to many types of private and public projects.

 

The project was undertaken in collaboration with the  Community Empowerment team of Auckland Council and funded by the Whau Local Board.  It was supported by a number of community groups and organisations, including Avondale Community Action.  Around 200 people attended the workshops over the three days with much positive feedback.
